Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Sharing Saturday #471
I'm currently writing another Python tutorial. I was hoping to have part-1 finished before this Sharing Saturday but it started while I'm still in the middle of updating the website. You can see the part-1 source I'm going with here and the resources I plan on using are organized here.

Is really Python3 so slow with libtcod?
See this NumPy/SciPy cave generator for a performant example.
-
Python libraries?
scipy.signal.convolve2d again, but used to count neighbors instead of masking them based on their direction. See this script for a cave generation example.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial Starting June 28th 2022
The python-tcod repository is here. This is the full source of the Python port including all the C sources of libtcod which are included as a sub-module plus all the setup scripts invoked. Most source repos are linked from their PyPI package page.

Considering changing from libtcod to pygame for tiles…
I'll be asking you to install tcod from the sdl branch of its Git repository. I'd recommended cloning the repo but that isn't required. You just need to tell pip install where the experimental source is.
-
What does this OpenGL error mean?
This is a known issue. Libtcod will fallback to the SDL2 renderer and will then run correctly, so this error only notes that the OpenGL renderers failed to initialize but won't prevent libtcod programs from running.
-
Can anyone assist me with an issue installing tcod in Arch Linux?
I found old bugs with similar issues (breaking on some sdl dependencies) on https://github.com/libtcod/python-tcod and filed an issue.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 8
In the end, I'm a bit behind on the schedule with gruid-rltuto, because I did not have much time lately, but I plan on finish the remaining 2-3 parts in the following weeks, as soon as I have some time.
-
RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 6
Well, I had little time for coding last week, so less progress than expected for gruid-rltuto : I only finished Part 10 just now. Saving and loading was actually quite easy because of standard library gob package, which allowed for automatic serialization of all the game data.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 4
Parts 6 and 7 of gruid-rltuto for Go are done. There were some little refactorings, but no big deals with these two parts. When creating the interface, I went with a more traditional look (keeping the 80x24 dimensions), because of personal preference, but it's easy to change this. I did implement monster examination like in the Python tutorial, using the mouse, leaving implementation of a keyboard examination mode to the reader :-)

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 3
Parts 4 and 5 of the gruid-rltuto in Go are ready! There's nothing really special to tell about them: I followed the Python tutorial closely enough, except for superficial things (like graphical representation of terrain, fov and entities) and language-related stuff (OO in Python is quite different than in Go). The FOV algorithm I used is symmetric shadow casting as implemented in gruid.

RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 2
This weeks' parts 2 and 3 are ready in the gruid-rltuto version of the tutorial in Go.

What are Go devs using for a terminal engine?
BTW, you may already be aware of it, but I'm doing a roguelike tutorial, though using SDL2 as default driver, but you might still find it useful to get started on non driver-specific stuff.
-
RoguelikeDev Does The Complete Roguelike Tutorial - Week 1
If anyone is interested in doing the tutorial in Go, you may want to have a look at the gruid-rltuto repository: I'm making the tutorial in Go following the overall structure of the tcod tutorial.
What are some alternatives?
libtcod - A collection of tools and algorithms for developing traditional roguelikes. Such as field-of-view, pathfinding, and a tile-based terminal emulator.
indigo - An FP game engine for Scala.
entt - Gaming meets modern C++ - a fast and reliable entity component system (ECS) and much more
Resistance
roguelike-tutorial - Following http://rogueliketutorials.com/ ...but with Scala and Indigo.
rdl2021-tutorial - /r/roguelikedev Tutorial 2021
bracket-lib - The Roguelike Toolkit (RLTK), implemented for Rust.
RoguelikeTutorial2021 - 2021 r/RoguelikeDev Tutorial
procedural_generation_godot - Commits for basic procedural generation in Godot engine
KoboldRL - A kobold roguelike based on the Libtcod Tutorial
libtcod-vcpkg-template - A template for C++17 libtcod projects. This template uses Vcpkg to fetch dependencies.
roguelike-tutorial-2021 - My repo for following along with the Complete Roguelike Tutorial using Rust and SDL2.
