How to calculate the coefficients of a digital bandpass filter?
Hi, Openal-soft uses this algorithm for HRTF processing. You can look: https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft

Learning C++ for Multimedia and Audio programming
I would recommend developing against OpenAL-Soft in C++: https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft . It is cross-platform, fully 3D for advanced game audio, and has enough low-level control to enable you to do pretty much anything with it. It is not for the faint of heart and will likely take years to fully learn, but is well documented, open source, and production-ready. Compile the lib, link it to your C++ protect and go. You can even ask chatGPT to help you set it up and figure it out.

Minecraft ALSOFT Failed to set real-time priority for thread: Operation not permitted
I can't try this https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft/issues/554 because it's for Linux Arch, and I'm using Linux Mint 21 XFCE. This bug also happened to me with Pop!_OS LTS.

Anyone know a good OpenAL alternative or wrapper which works on Apple platforms?
Sounds like you want OpenAL Soft a cross platform LGPL software implementation of OpenAL. Source code and issue tracker are [on Github](0https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft).

System Shock 2 Review - MandaloreGaming
This allows SS2 to output surround audio (5.1). Just set channels=surround51 in the alsoft.ini to make the audio 5.1. (you can refer to this for more ini options).

Dynamic Audio C++ Libraries
Lazyfoo is always an option for SDL2. You should be able to generate sound with it rather than play files, at least the mixer example for the rust bindings does it. As for OpenAL, the OpenAL Soft implementation is as you said LGPL (GNU Lesser General Public License) licensed, which is an open source license. The source is available here. SDL2 is also open source under the zlib license, and SDL 1.2 and older is available under the LGPL license as well.

I'm starting to get tired
Since you have C# experience, take this time to learn more about C++ while you continue to look. While yes, it is very easy to write bad code, it's not a huge deal since you just graduated and are just hacking around. Plus there are a lot of helpers these days to make writing bad code a little less likely.A former mentor of mine gifted me "C++ Without Fear" by Brian Overland which I can recommend. It's not too expensive, I think it was $25 or something like that, likely less used. Also comes in E-book form.If you'd like a gentler introduction to C++, may I recommend openFrameworks?

Have you come across openFrameworks (https://openframeworks.cc/) or Cinder (https://libcinder.org/)?

I know C++. What game engine should I use?
I recently heard of openFrameworks which should make it pretty easy to make your game. It handles putting together a bunch of other libraries and window management so you can focus on drawing some shapes on the screen and handling user input. Sounds like love2d but all C++.

Nannou – An open-source creative-coding framework for Rust
I mean, https://www.libcinder.org and https://openframeworks.cc have been mainstays of the creative coding industry for a long time now. A Rust take on the problem shouldn't be too surprising.
