DIY Handheld/mobile lidar mapping solution of AEC
As of software I intend to use ROS and the solutions that are already on github https://github.com/hku-mars/loam_livox. This is just one of them I guess I may need to have the device to test which one works best in my case. I hope I would be able to setup a solution for easy operation of the device on site that includes monitoring the survey as it builds up.

Livox - Basics
You might not need a GNSS, you might be able to just run LOAM-Livox on the data in order to do SLAM-based 3D scans. Of course, a GNSS may improve things, and allow you to georeference the data.

Lidar 3D Mapping Recommendations
Further you may take a look at Floam. It is an ICP approach used within RTAB that may be chosen, but it is also a fully fledged 3D Slam approach afaik. https://github.com/wh200720041/floam
