A major problem with intrinsic calibration is the lack of open source libraries that can accurately detect highly distorted, high density checkerboards. OpenCV and other surface level detection libraries are pretty much unusable for anything other than low density checkerboards. MATLAB has a great package, but it is obviously closed source and is pretty slow. Libcdetect is okay, but there are only versions written in MATLAB and C++ (and I have no idea how to use C++ haha. Let me know if you know how to use this C++ package!).
