OpenVR-WalkInPlace VS elite-vr-cockpit

I have spare baby playpen set up 6ft away from the computer/desk and I tethered an exercise resistance band to the corner of the playpen nearest the desk and then loop that around my waist. My back is to the desk in the playpen corner so the cables won't get in the way. Now I should be able to walk in place and not actually go anywhere. I won't need to worry about pets or anything getting in the way as it's gated off. Then I'm thinking about using the free OpenVR-WalkInPlace driver that seems to be able to do either head bobbing or arm swinging movement.

Not a mod per se but Open VR walk-in-place was a huge boon for immersion.

I'd also recommend HOTAS and Elite Dangerous, but if you just want to try it first there is a mod for Elite Dangerous that adds support for VR controllers. I don't know whether it still works well, but I have used it a lot in the past and it was surprisingly good. HOTAS is of course much better, but the virtual controls work fine and to me are much more fun than using a gamepad.

This project might be of interest.

It's another low barrier to entry option for 'VR controls' in a cockpit settings; virtual cockpit interfaces. They are essentially a 3D overlay, where you position the controls over their in-game counterpart, and will allow you to interact with the cockpit without the VR animations. https://github.com/dantman/elite-vr-cockpit I think a similar system could work nicely if VR controls was a dev goal in the early phases.
