Proton 7 is out with TONS of improvements!
More recently, the FAudio project provided an open source implementation of XAudio2, which was eventually integrated into Wine. However, since the WMA codec may still be patent-encumbered, Wine has not included a WMA decoder. This is why certain linux distros and other sources (maybe including Steam?) provide a special build of FAudio that uses ffmpeg or gstreamer for WMA decoding.

Wine 7.0 released
It will absolutely help Proton, because Proton is a version of Wine bundled with some other things, like DXVK and FAudio.
-
Wine 6.22 released
It was actually a SDL bug.
-
Is wine moving away from gstreamer in the near future?
Or is it Faudio that's removing gstreamer support? *GStreamer support will be fully removed in the first release after Wine 7.0.

Can someone explain Lutris in extreme layman terms cause I can't get my head around it
Lutris is a launcher for applications that run on Linux, that's the most comprehensive answer. It is highly configurable and supports scripting. Probably the most common use is launching non-steam Windows games with Wine and DXVK/VKD3D (I recommend a tool called ProtonUp-Qt for managing versions of this software). However, it can be configured to launch just about anything, including native Linux executables etc. Many popular titles will have scripts that automate the installation and setup, making them plug and play (if the script is good, that is). But everything the script does can be done manually too.

So I tried using WOWS using Ubuntu 22.04 using wine 8.0.1 and it is pausing on logging in and crashing, plz help.
Try installing it through Steam instead of using Wine directly. Mine is currently set to "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and GE-Proton7-41, so try installing that one if none of the Proton versions that come with the Steam client works. Installing a custom version of Proton is fairly simple if you know the command line, basically just unpack it into the right folder. But if you prefer graphical tools you can use ProtonUp-Qt instead.

NEED HELP! Assetto Corsa
I'd try that since it's something you haven't tried at least. Check the first comment - all you have to do is install protonUp-Qt and then launch it. Use protonup to install Proton GE 7-55. Then, when you go to steam (might require a restart, don't remember) in the compatibility settings for the game you can set it to the Proton GE version.

Grezzo 2 on Steam Deck?
Bit late but luxtorpeda has gzdoom as an option along with qzdl for launching with mods. You just gotta install protonup-qt from the discover store in desktop mode. A quick YouTube/Google search can show you how but that's the rough gist of it.
