https://davidotek.github.io/protonup-qt/ is a tool to help you manage wine and proton installs on your system. (Lutris and bottles now both have similar functionality built in. So the tool is most useful if using steam to install/manage your games, or heroic, or manually managing wine yourself).

ProtonUp-Qt - This is used for downloading Proton GE. This can be found on the Discover store. Proton GE is great for getting 'Not Supported' games working, like the Arkham series or Halo MCC.

Using ProtonUp-Qt (Recommended): Download ProtonUp-Qt either using the AppImage or from Flathub or if you are using Arch then it is also available in the AUR. Download Instructions Open ProtonUp-Qt, if you are using the AppImage then just double clicking on the downloaded file will open ProtonUp-Qt (Make sure the file is executable, Right click on the file and click on "Properties" the check for and option for something like "Mark as executable" or similar, different file manager have different ways to do this so it is difficult for me to tell you exactly) After opening ProtonUp-Qt a new window will appear and now you can choose the program you want to install Wine on like Steam, Lutris or Bottles. For this guide we click on the drop down menu and select "Lutris". Then click on "Add version" button, choose a version and click "Install" and now you should have your desired Wine version installed. NOTE: Make sure you install the non-lol version, the version that ends with -LoL is meant for League of Legends, so it will not work for other games. Then restart Lutris if you had it open.
  • I bought a Tee Shirt and Coughed up 10$ to the Linux Mint Cause!

Cheers, I've been using mint for over 3 years now I love it (cinnamon edition). Long time windoze user previously that loved winamp ;). You might check out audacious as a music player, it supports winamp skins. Also for playing windows games I use Lutris with Glorious Eggroll's version of proton (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases). Since this gets updated somewhat often, I also use this appimage (https://github.com/DavidoTek/ProtonUp-Qt) which I can use to download the newest version and install it in the correct directory for me, pretty sweet.

If you use only the standard Lutris runner you could also try the Wine-GE-Proton runner, ProtonUp-QT makes the download, setup and keeping updated easy.

Ubuntu/kubuntu is great for new users. Also don't tinker (change/mod things) the first thing you do. Stay inside the GUI spaces in the beginning, The Terminal is there and it will call to you sooner or later and you will use it more and more. If you are a gamer, remember that most Anti-cheat activated games won't work, sometimes only online but sometimes it won't work Single-player either. https://www.protondb.com/ is a great source for checking if games work or if somethings need to be done beforehand and so on. https://lutris.net/ is a great help with Wine to get games outside of steam running (don't use proton outside of steam, and refrain from using wine inside of steam. If someone recommends using "GE"(GloriousEggroll) you can use https://davidotek.github.io/protonup-qt/ To manage both proton-GE(for Steam) and Wine-GE(for anything outside steam).
