If you need to edit your podcast audio, cut out extra audio or a cough etc. I would recommend Audacity, which is an open source piece of software you can download and use to listen or edit your audio on. There has been a lot of controversy around Audacity so I am recommended it on the basis that you do your own research and understand their latest privacy policies changes.
  • I think audacity is taking the piss
I don't see if this is FOSS. At least in Audacity we get some kind of audits. A few months ago, there was a huge shitstorm for a PR, that should add telemetry (https://github.com/audacity/audacity/pull/835). Now, afaik all telemetry is opt-in, which is actually not that bad and imho way better than Ocenaudio.

Wow, I hadn't heard about the Audacity takeover mentioned there as incentive for the push, what a shame

It is not just this. More importantly to me, MuseGroup imposed a CLA on a 20 year old GPL project which gives them unilateral authority to use contributions in proprietary software. They have not reversed this. It is very unlikely they will reverse that; it seems to be essential to whatever business strategy they have planned to monetize Audacity.

Got a bit of an update to you: We've come to the conclusion that this actually is something which might warrant a fix sooner rather than later, especially since the functionality already has been programmed to a large extend. It now is a question of designing/communicating it in a good way. I can't promise any specific date or release, but you can subscribe to the bug on Github to get updates: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/1452

  • Godot > Unity3D
    reddit.com/r/Unity3D | 2021-08-09
If you're referring to the whole "It's spyware" thing, the PR #835 was opt-in telemetry that has been dropped. The data they're collecting is designed to support error reporting and checking for updates and they swapped to self hosting the data.
  • Dark Audacity
    reddit.com/r/audacity | 2021-08-06
As for collecting personal info: https://github.com/audacity/audacity/discussions/1353 TL;DR: Audacity sends some very basic information about your system when checking for updates and a little bit more when you choose to send a crash report. You can opt out of automatic update checking and just not send crash reports.
  • AudMonkey: Audacity 3.0.3 fork without telemetry(spyware), this fork also provides appimage, exe, dmg for easy install
