  • Godot

    Godot Engine – Multi-platform 2D and 3D game engine

  • This probably isn't the best answer and I personally haven't made a RL yet, but I've been using a engine called Godot recently to make a story game over the past like 7 months for my little sister. I know enough about it at this point that if I wanted I could drop what I've been doing and go make a RL but I want to see the game thru to the end. But if you started out from scratch you'd want to follow a tutorial, there's quite a few on youtube for rougelikes specifically made for godot as well as plenty beginner tutorials to get you thru the basics.

  • dungeonbash

Martin's Dungeon Bash, a roguelike game.

  • You won't be able to follow it very well if you don't know C, but you can try skimming through the source code to Martin's Dungeon Bash (the .cc and .hh files). The whole thing only comes to around 180 pages if printed out and is a complete roguelike built on top of very minimal support libraries. Even if you can't follow all of the code logic yet, you can get a full look at what a complete roguelike looks like written down.
