Can anyone explain how the look_at() function works? like, in terms of math.

    In 2D it's just applying atan2(y, x) to the rotation. In 3D the rotation is applied around the cross product of the given up direction and the new forward vector (target - position). This is done using the Basis object, see the very bottom of this script.
