How to install Linux from a Windows installer
It has a fork for UEFI systems but it's also not updated anymore https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi Though it still works more or less
-
WinLinux 2000
wubi was also awesome letting install and use Ubuntu as a single file on your Windows drive
There is a modern fork which more or less works https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi
- How would you install Ubuntu on a 2nd hard drive without losing data on it
-
Pour one out for our long lost brethren, this is where I got my start
Looks like someone already did! https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/releases
-
This boot screen feels so weird everytime. :D
Went down a rabbit hole clicking that link and discovered a modern fork of it that still works today! https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi

Is installing Linux as a second OS on a new PC worth it?

Linux on the laptop works so damn well that it’s boring
I wish Ubuntu didn't kill Wubi tho. We used that at my first workplace on laptops with Windows and it was so damn good. There is a new fork [0] but it's a hit and miss with modern UEFI and especially with Windows 11 (had to use it for some reason). And other distros never had an option like this afaik, none does as of today. But I know it's all about Docker, VMs, or WSL nowadays yet Wubi covered a niche segment which was pefect.

Could be bad for software or storage using Ubuntu from live usb?
Wubi. It creates an iso inside your partition and you can delete it without any hassle. It's a little slower than running on bare metal though.
-
Getting back into it dual boot
If you have Windows installed, you can try WubiUEFI (if you have a UEFI system). It installs like any other windows app and can be removed if needed. https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/releases/tag/20044r344

Has anyone managed to make elden Ring with AMD Boost?

- Elden Ring Patch 1.04.1 is available now
-
ELDEN RING: Update notes 1.04 released
Here it is. You can also play on Linux to get the same fix without having to disable the online features.

ELDEN RING: Patch Notes 1.04
Or the excessive command buffer creation/deletion that has been fixed on Proton (for the Steam Deck but also benefits all other Linux systems) and an external DX12 fix (https://github.com/soupstream/EldenRingStutterFix, which unfortunately prevents EAC from running and thus disables multiplayer).

Reshade presets
Anyone else on PC trying out Reshade? My current favorite is Photorealistic Lands Between ReShade with Vivid Option and Optional Balanced Cinematic Effects. Here's some screenshots. I'm using EldenRingStutterFix too. Smooths out the vast majority of stutters so far. Giving a field of view mod a go as well.
- this man has practiced this move 1000 times.

Game Ready & Studio Driver 512.15 FAQ/Discussion
FYI, the fixes made by valve for the steam deck have been ported to Windows, though the person who ported those fixes says SpecialK should be used instead since it does the same thing.
-
If you're playing Elden Ring and have little to no stutter/freezing issues, could you share your GPU driver version and game profile please?
Try This and disable the anticheat if you're fine without online play. Fixed mine.

Valve Explains How It Fixed Elden Ring on Steam Deck
I'm hopeful they will fix this issue, but doubtful unless there is a massive petition with clear goals like fix performance with pointing to this valve fix, unlock frame rate, add ultrawide, give option to disable vignetting and chromatic aberration etc. I wonder if GPU driver release with added command allocator pool cache would be possible, because I saw another DX12 fix and it basically a simple cache.
