Switched to Godot from Unity
To be honest though, Zy's module is going to be rough for you if you are averse to written documentation + code samples + experimentation, since that's kind of the best option for learning it at the moment. For an integrated character controller, dig into the blocky game example here. Specifically this script.

My thought on different engines
Godot Engine is a free and open-source game engine. The story started as an in-house engine of an Argentinian studio in 2007, and since 2014, it's been a community-driven project with a lot of contributors.
