How do rust gui frameworks avoid rerendering?
On a more recent machine, that same (well, more primitive) app with pixels or softbuffer struggled beyond acceptable. But was definitely poorly written.
-
Minimal 2D library for games? I'm struggling a bit to settle on one to learn.
I'm using winit and softbuffer for my CurrentProject™.
-
Which OpenGL crate should I use?
Another annoyance is that it's not possible to have flicker-free resizing with wgpu without completely killing the performance. OTOH, softbuffer resizing never flickers.
-
What 2D graphics library would you most recommend?
Why not minifb or softbuffer (which lets you use winit)?

Rust's Option and Result. In Python.
machine learning, neural networks, image processing, cryptography (though it is getting better), font shaping/rendering (though it is getting better), CPU/software rendering (though it is getting better)

Hey Rustaceans! Got a question? Ask here! (24/2022)!
I have decided that wgpu is not worth it, and gone to softbuffer, which does not stretch, and works a whole lot better. Downside: no GPU and no scaling support.

Show HN: Open-source alternatives to tools You pay for
As a Neovim afficionado - I think you lose some credibility recommending it as an alternative to VSCode and Sublime. They're different beasts. I imagine a lot of people would be immediately turned off if they were expecting a VSCode/Sublime-like editing experience.
I'd put Lapce in that spot: https://lapce.dev/
- IDE for rust
- Lapce Editor 0.3
What are some alternatives?
winit - Window handling library in pure Rust
helix - A post-modern modal text editor.
rustshed - Rust types in Python. https://justforfunnoreally.dev/
zed - Code at the speed of thought – Zed is a high-performance, multiplayer code editor from the creators of Atom and Tree-sitter.
weird-move-behaviour-reproduction
vscodium - binary releases of VS Code without MS branding/telemetry/licensing
minifb - MiniFB is a small cross platform library to create a frame buffer that you can draw pixels in
zed - Rethinking code editing.
site - Code for the website / Código para o site
autocomplete - IDE-style autocomplete for your existing terminal & shell
wgpu - Cross-platform, safe, pure-rust graphics api.
xi-editor - A modern editor with a backend written in Rust.
