  • [Handmade Network] How to write better (game) libraries
Even if someone wants to use VS2008 for game development, it only took me a Google search to find which doesn't have any dependencies and a very permissive licence.

You seem to have had a similar impetus as I had 20 years ago when I created GLFW (though with a slightly different focus).
  • Is there a way to get japanese text input in raylib? | 2021-08-23
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'm afraid I didn't considered that use case for raylib and it would require some investigation to implement it... but raylib uses internally GLFW for desktop platforms and I've seen there is a related issue: About IME support by the browser, it should be investigated. Feel free to open an issue on raylib GitHub for further investigation!
  • Massive trouble with GLFW header inclusion. Can someone help?
Looking at the actual code of the .h file, it looks pretty empty, and like it needs some extra files perhaps. For instance, functions are just filled with comments with some random explanations, so they are basically 1 line, which probably does nothing. Here you can take a look yourself on github.

I would suggest using GLFW and Glad with C++ and use LearnOpenGL as a refrence

Now I read the logs and it seems the issue is with GLFW. I've found this:

Clone the glfw repositiory - git clone
  • 3D Visualization with C++
Use to get a window with an OpenGL context.
  • A better way of running Minecraft Without XWayland. Because I REALLY had nothing better to do with my life. (which is where I got some patches from) says there wasn't much upstream interest on merging the patches. But (the fix for the freezing issue) might be a good candidate for merging, though I don't know how GLFW people work, so I cannot comment on if it is properly upstreamable or not.

  • Twitter's new font, Chirp, is apparently giving some users headaches | 2021-08-12
This looks very much as if the font renderer is aggressively hinting to the pixel grid vertically, but not horizontally. That’s a known trick for getting a decent compromise between crisp text (along the baselines and tops of letters) with subpixel horizontal kerning.

I doubt the Android renderer is really broken and no-one has noticed until now, so I’d guess the font either has bad hinting, or more likely it’s just being displayed at an awkward size and vertical positions are being rounded in an awkward way. You can see the slight deviations from the baseline in the iOS screenshots, it’s just much more subtle as it isn’t being hinted.

  • What code only engines for C or C++ are there? | 2021-08-08
I've heard good things about Urho3d, but have never used it.
  • 3D game engine for lower end pcs | 2021-07-01
Urho3D works on mobiles, Windows, Mac, and even on the R Pi. It's a code-first engine with a minimal editor.
  • 2D game framework/engine that is mostly code driven (not GUI-driven) | 2021-06-02
    Urho3D, rbfx
  • Godot support for 3D is too primitive, and Unity has become a wild mess over the years. Is Unreal Engine the only remaining option for 3D projects? | 2021-05-24
You might give rbfx a look. It is an actively developed fork of Urho3D that has pretty decent, and actively developed, 3D rendering.
  • Best library for 3D development that doesn't require GLFW/GLAD etc | 2021-05-08
You might give rbfx a try. It's a fork of Urho3D which is also good, though aging. While they do verge into engine territory, they're not editor-based as Unity and Godot are, and in fact the editors for each are quite rudimentary and unfinished. For a programming-centric workflow, they're pretty nice.
  • Alternatives to Scratch
    Urho3D (it does 2D too)
  • Looking for code only game engine | 2021-03-29 | 2021-03-29
As far as an existing engine goes I would recommend Urho3D (or RBFX a fork of Urho3D) . The engine is surprisingly complete and capable and pretty slim compared to most other engines with similar feature sets. It supports scripting, but everything can be done directly through C++ as well. It has a graphical editor, but you an do everything through source code if that's your preference.
