NEO The World Ends With You crashes with a DirectX 11 initialization error
If you know the directory structure and where the versions of Proton live that Heroic uses, you can also go to the dxvk github page and select the 1.10.3 tar ball, download it and extract it, then manually move the appropriate files to their desired location in the Proton file structure. As with all things like this, .old is your friend if you stuff something up. And yes this does work, I compile my own vkd3d versions and use this approach as a lazy way to test them in Steam.

Version 0.28 is here!
You can try dkvx Github dkvx , which is a mod that supposedly translates the DX11 stuff to Vulkan but I am not an IT guy so no clue how that works but as I said somewhere else on this thread it helped some people.

Vulkan Support for older PC games (e.g. Warcraft 3, Starcraft etc.)
Worry not, if you want to play Windows games on Linux, you will use Wine, and Wine has codepaths for very old DirectX versions, it translates it to OpenGL. Alternatively if you really insist there is D8VK although it shouldn't be necessary. For DirectX games that use DirectX 9, 10, or 11 you are covered with DXVK which translates those APIs into Vulkan. And for DirectX 12 games you're back to Wine with WineD3D which will do translation to Vulkan. Technically WineD3D supports every DirectX version, but DirectX 9, 10, and 11 codepaths are half finished, buggy, and less performant, that's why DXVK exists.

Direct3D 8 to Vulkan translator D8VK 'production-ready' 1.0 is out now
the release has a tabular comparison: https://github.com/AlpyneDreams/d8vk/releases/tag/d8vk-v1.0
If you manually installed a 3rd party d3d8 -> d3d9 translation layer, that would indeed be rendered using DXVK since DXVK implements d3d9. See the table at the bottom of the 1.0 release: https://github.com/AlpyneDreams/d8vk/releases/tag/d8vk-v1.0

Early 2000s rally games were so good
Ps. d8vk came out today. Helps with some of these old DX8 games.
- D8vk Version 1.0
- D8VK Release v1.0 (Vulkan translation layer of Direct3D 8 for DXVK)
- D8VK Release v1.0 (Vulkan translation of Direct3D 8 for DXVK)
What are some alternatives?
dxvk - Vulkan-based implementation of D3D9, D3D10 and D3D11 for Linux / Wine
dxwrapper - Fixes compatibility issues with older games running on Windows 10/11 by wrapping DirectX dlls. Also allows loading custom libraries with the file extension .asi into game processes.
dxvk-async
d3d8to9 - A D3D8 pseudo-driver which converts API calls and bytecode shaders to equivalent D3D9 ones.
d912pxy - DirectX9 to DirectX12 API proxy for Guild Wars 2
dxvk-native - D3D9/11 but it runs natively on Linux!
FFXIVQuickLauncher - Custom launcher for FFXIV
renderdoc - RenderDoc is a stand-alone graphics debugging tool.
