Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Good open source projects to learn from?
Physics3D is I'd say a mid-size project. It is mostly C++11, so nothing cutting edge.
- Do you have any examples of decent projects written in C++?

2D FDTD solver in c++ with python wrapper
Earlier year I decided to implement 2D FDTD solver with support of different backends and a python wrapper so you don't need to recompile it if want to run another example, the project is still in early development and there are a lot of room for improvement and code base is not big at all. Just wanted to share it so people who is looking for some small project to contribute can consider it. Github : https://github.com/yaraslaut/prop
