I made an adapter to use a SNES controller on my cube. Still unfinished (need a case).
https://imgur.com/a/87tF4ST is a diagram for what goes to where on the arduino. The person who made this diagram his video is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg4ohu6CoT8 . He used a different arduino, but the gamecube 'data' goes to D2 on the nano. Colored wires may be different (mine are) and you need a multimeter to verify the wires. His video description has a link to a .hex file you flash the arduino with. I used xloader to flash the nano with the hex file (far easier than DVRDUDE or whatever). More info here and another hex file: https://www.raphnet.net/electronique/x2wii/index_en.php

You can also program the arduino microcontroller to just use the raphnet firmware: https://github.com/raphnet/snes2wii
