Looking to make a MUD
For something that will take months instead of years, your best bet is to find an existing MUD engine like Evennia and work with that. Evennia is great for this sort of thing because it has pretty much nothing implemented in terms of gameplay, but has all of the backend instrumentation you need-- it stands up a server, gives you a web interface, provides administrative capabilities, abstracts away a lot of the data management, etc.
