  • lutris

    Lutris desktop client

  • If you have a particular game that you absolutely want/need to play, do a search on the protondb.com or lutris.net and see if there are and install scripts or reports of issues on those games. If it checks out, just go for it, try it. But be prepared that it most likely will require at least some level of tinkering in some games to get them to work properly.

  • kernel patched with futex2 kernel patched with fsync compatibility kernel patched with winesync kernel patched with cherry-picked zen patches kernel patched with OpenRGB kernel patched with AMD CPCC kernel patched to enable amdgpu for pre-polaris cards by default instead of radeon kernel patched with steam deck support kernel configured with ashmem, binder, and android support for Waydroid kernel patched with windows surface support kernel patched with simpledrm fix/workaround for nvidia (see: https://gitlab.com/cki-project/kernel-ark/-/merge_requests/1788 ) QSG_RENDER_LOOP=”basic” set for nvidia cards — fixes nouveau Wayland freezes. The nvidia proprietary driver sets this anyway after installation. This fixes the issue of KDE Wayland often times freezing on first login before nvidia proprietary drivers are installed. mesa-git provided for AMD/Intel drivers instead of latest release, built and updated regularly (every few weeks to a month on average)

  • POL-POM-4

    PlayOnLinux 4 repository

  • If you will to run a game with Wine, use the release version. You can also use PlayOnLinux (I feel old mentioning this), Lutris, and Bottles (this new one I didn't tested yet).

  • waydroid

Waydroid uses a container-based approach to boot a full Android system on a regular GNU/Linux system like Ubuntu.

  • There are ways to run Android games too. Anbox or Waydroid can be used.

  • snapcraft

Package, distribute, and update any app for Linux and IoT.

  • Ubuntu has Snap, which is... garbage. It is slow... nobody know why.

  • anbox

Discontinued Anbox is a container-based approach to boot a full Android system on a regular GNU/Linux system

  • deb-get

apt-get for .debs published via GitHub or direct download 📦

  • for Ubuntu-based, I recommend Pop!_OS, they bring update pretty fast and their Pop!_Shop app store is still one of the best I've ever tried. Also, there is an integrated Factory Reset option that would wipe out your /home user data, so that's very useful for a newbie. Plus, on Ubuntu you get access to deb-get and pacstall which makes finding native apps easy.

  • SaaSHub

  • pacstall

An AUR-inspired package manager for Ubuntu

  • HeroicGamesLauncher

A games launcher for GOG, Amazon and Epic Games for Linux, Windows and macOS.

  • Bottles and Heroic is what I recommend for newbies to play their non-Steam games with. It's just super handy, and soon they'll support adding the games directly to Steam as well. Just make sure to use Flatseal and enable /home access for these Bottles.

  • com.wps.Office

  • Use WPS Office for Office documents. LibreOffice and OnlyOffice aren't bad Office suites, but if you're collaborating with someone, WPS Office has the best compatibility with MS Office formats. It's a Chinese proprietary app, though, so I recommend disabling Network access via Flatseal.

  • com.valvesoftware.Steam

  • Gaming is fine. For the most part, you just need to install Steam and play your games via Bottles. If you're a newbie, you can install both using Flatpak which is essentially a "one-size fits all App Store for all Linux distro." Just make sure to also install Flatseal to manage permissions, and you're done.
