Help out a noob. So I want to get a kindle, but I would ideally like to download my books. I used to do it years ago but I’m pretty sure it’s changed 😅

    • You'll most likely find epub files which the kindle doesnt support . Kindle supports .mobi .azw3 and .kfx. However out of these formats kfx has the most features. You can use calibre to convert and manage you ebooks. It also allows you to edit the metadata of the ebooks.It also has plugins to add more functionality, I'll mention some useful ones below.

  • DeDRM_tools

    DeDRM tools for ebooks

    • DeDRM You can use this to remove DRM from books borrowed from the Internet Archive and also to remove DRM from books purchased from the Kindle Store. You could also get the 30 day trial of the Kindle Unlimited, get as many books as you want, remove the DRM and then unsubscribe from the trial. Although you may need to do some work to set up this plugin to work with Kindle (you basically have to find your serial number and set it in the settings.). This plugin doesn't handle the kfx format very well currently so instead of copying the files from your kindle download the azw3 format of them from https://amazon.com/mycd and then convert them back to kfx after the removal of DRM.
