  • Proton

Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components

  • Quit note that Nioh 1 has larger problems than media foundation that cause it to crash during regular gameplay. You can read more about it here on the proton github issue page (there's no mention of media foundation being an issue though).

  • dxvk

    Vulkan-based implementation of D3D9, D3D10 and D3D11 for Linux / Wine

  • I'm as excited as everyone for the Steam Deck with Valve's promise that "every game will work" but outside of their work on anti-cheat, the issues plaguing some of these games have had no solution or would be a herculean task to implement and fix. For example, Persona 5 Strikers does not have videos working due to shared resources not being implemented and this is what was said about it (full thread here, marked as wontfix):

  • mf-install

    Media Foundation workaround for Wine

  • I'll just leave this here: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install

  • They are fixing MFPlat. Transcoded videos are a fallback. They had a built in local transcoding option (media-converter) but that got dropped as it was causing issues. They are working more towards using local gstreamer/ffmpeg support so they don't have to distribute the codecs. Because there are issues with Codec's and patent blocking and stuff.
