And you know what pisses me off the most about all of this? All GOG had to actually do was fucking try. Linux users are the single demographic most likely to care about DRM free software. I care about DRM free software. If you had asked me, in 2014, whether I'd prefer to buy a Linux game on GOG or Steam, I'd have said GOG blind. Sure, GOG doesn't have the resources of Steam, but they had (and in some ways still have) the natural advantage of shared values. If GOG had really put some effort into supporting Linux, Linux users would have been there for them, and I don't doubt that many of them would have supported GOG over Steam. GOG could have made sure their DOSBOX and ScummVM releases ran on Linux. They could have designed GOG Galaxy with cross-platform support in mind—Unlike Steam, they didn't have legacy considerations, because they had no legacy. And even though I doubt GOG could have patched together Proton on their resources, they could have done the sort of compatibility work that made them successful to start with for the linux world—bundling their old games with wine configurations and fixes to create a plug-and-play, no-fuckery-required package. But they gave us a pittance of ports, the worst user experience of any platform GOG supports, and have done their best to just seem... apathetic at best. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since they are a CDPR joint. CDPR: The company who did a poor job of their first Linux port, didn't even have the balls to officially cancel their second, and let Valve put in the work to ensure Proton would run their third game out of the box for them... On steam only, of course (Hey, CDPR, Proton is thataway. All that work Valve did for you is right there. Wouldn't you like it if Linux users had a reason to buy your game on your platform? Sure seems a waste...).
