Firefox lost 50M users since 2019. Why are users switching to Chrome and clones? Is this because when you visit Google and MS properties from FF, they promote their browsers via ads?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux

  • ungoogled-chromium

Google Chromium, sans integration with Google

  • kitsune

    Platform for Mozilla Support

  • Just so you know, you can ask for help on /r/firefox or https://support.mozilla.org

  • web-bugs

A place to report bugs on websites.

  • Can you report those sites to https://webcompat.com?

  • openscreenprotocol

    Open Screen Protocol

  • Stuck in standards hell, but I'm sure Firefox will support it once it gets standardized: https://github.com/w3c/openscreenprotocol/blob/main/explainer.md

  • tridactyl

A Vim-like interface for Firefox, inspired by Vimperator/Pentadactyl.

  • I was a pretty avid Vimperator user (my notes on it https://fabien.benetou.fr/Tools/Vimperator ) and was sad to see it broke. I tried Pentadactyl but moved on and gave up for years. I've been using Tridactyl https://github.com/tridactyl/tridactyl/ for nearly a year now and even some things few like total hacks (apparently due to Electrolysis/XUL transition) it still does work. I can still define binding to browsing functions and the API is complete enough. I share your frustration but this seems to be the way.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.

  • positron

Discontinued a experimental, Electron-compatible runtime on top of Gecko

  • Unfortunately Mozilla did try to make the process easier https://github.com/mozilla/positron but gave up https://mykzilla.org/2017/03/08/positron-discontinued/

  • policy-templates

    Policy Templates for Firefox

  • I am aware of that, what I mean are their policy templates that allow a great deal of customization without having to manage local files on clients. They are missing those toggles.
