Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • Proton

Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components

  • To run Windows games on Linux / SteamOS, Valve uses Proton, which is a set of compatibility layers that translate all the Windows-specific code to something Linux can understand. Proton gets updated very frequently, and you can get the latest updates by using Proton Experimental- but to maintain compatibility with the thousands of games out there, games will use the latest release version of Proton by default (right now, that's Proton 7.0-6). You can change which version of Proton a game uses by opening the "Properties..." menu for the game in Steam, selecting "Compatibility," then checking "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" and selecting the version you want to use from the drop-down menu.

  • fpPS4

PS4 compatibility layer (emulator) on Free Pascal

  • PS4 emulation is in the works, but playing something like Ghosts of Tsushima is years away. fpPS4 and Obliteration are experimental emulators / compatibility layers, but they’ve only been in development for a few years and can just boot simple games. That being said, Ghost of Tsushima was one of many games listed in the GeForce NOW leak from Ighor July a few years ago; Since then, many of the games listed have indeed been announced for PC, so a PC port might be on its way.

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • proton-ge-custom

Compatibility tool for Steam Play based on Wine and additional components

  • Someone named GloriousEggroll maintains their own version of Proton called Proton-GE, which can include the latest changes to Proton as well as specific fixes for certain games and issues. Usually these are things that Valve can't or won't do in Proton, for legal or compatibility reasons, but that certain games might benefit from. You can see which games have specific fixes in Proton-GE here. If you want to use Proton-GE, use this link to download ProtonUp-Qt from the Discover store, which will help you download and install Proton-GE for use with Steam.

  • ProtonUp-Qt

Install and manage GE-Proton, Luxtorpeda & more for Steam and Wine-GE & more for Lutris with this graphical user interface.

  • steam-deck-utilities

A utility to improve performance and help manage storage on Steam Deck.

  • CryoUtilities is a set of tweaks made by a user named CryoByte33. They mostly focus on changes to how Linux manages memory, which can alleviate framerate issues for games that use a lot of memory (i.e. newer, graphically intensive games). Most games don't need these tweaks, but some greatly benefit from it. There's also some storage-related tweaks that are especially valuable to folks with 64GB Steam Decks. His video can explain it all better than I can.
