whitefield
Whitefield provides a simulation environment for wireless sensor networks by combining RF simulation provided by NS3 and network stack provided by popular IoT OSes such as Contiki/RIOT/OpenThread. (by whitefield-framework)
openthread
OpenThread released by Google is an open-source implementation of the Thread networking protocol (by openthread)

The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Looking for a wireless network emulator
I found and forked the https://github.com/whitefield-framework/whitefield project that shares the same objective. It simulates the IEEE802.15.4 protocol using NS-3 and lets you run your code that uses upper-layers implementation from RIOT-OS. It's not perfect nor a finished product but it gives you an idea of what you can do. In the end, it depends on the radio protocol you are using and what part of the network stack exactly you need to simulate.

How to know if device is being used as bridge?
See https://github.com/openthread/openthread/issues/3311 You probably need an nRF dongle (costs only a few bucks. I think I bought 2 for €12 a year ago.)
