ok I joined the N1GP discord but I don't have permission to send messages. I tried to download Tango from here, but Windows won't seem to let me run it.

if you really want some online action with battle network definitely check out the fanmade Rollback patch(Tango) that is supported with the official steam release and roms

Emulator mupen64plus-GLideN64-highres: Copied MARIOKART64 folder of https://github.com/AndratVA/Mario-Kart-64-HD to \\retropie\configs\n64\mupen64plus\hires_textureThe game starts fine. Everything was compressed to MARIOKART64_HIRESTEXTURES.htc in cache folder. Since this, the game loads about 1.6G at the beginning from said htc file. But when the race starts, I see the little prestart animation where all karts drive to their spots and then the game crashes. I found an error message in the log file:
