Side (online) project I started some days ago!
I am doing it on React + Typescript + react-pixi-fiber on the frontend and Typescript on the backend. Not a very good backend language for realtime games but I want to learn more about networking before going to a harder language like Rust. Also, this way I can reuse the types. PNPM handles the monorepo.

First, take your class-based Pixi.JS code and throw it away, because if you wanna be mature HTML5 game developer you have to grow some balls and learn React. Libraries like react-pixi-fiber and react-pixi will help you with that.

how to go about creating a map editor?
pixi.js is pretty good. It's not specifically tile based, I think it can be used for that too. There is also a library that lets you use react JSX with it, although I'm not sure how good it is.

My thought on different engines
For full web games (yeah, I come from the web, so I try to make my family proud), I will recommend PixiJS. It has great support for TypeScript and works very well with Vite. It's lighter than other game engines, so it's better for web games. But you will need to do a lot of things by yourself.
