Beyond all reason seems to be all the buzz right now. Its a Total Annihilation remake and its free. Definately worth a try. https://www.beyondallreason.info/

Beyond All Reason matches what you’re talking about. It’s a new strategy game published only on the developers website. I believe it’s made by 3 friends and is actually pretty good!

Beyond All Reason - I've never played it but it gets a LOT of praise. It's like Total Annihilation and it's got quite a bit of content.
