Looks great. I assume it uses https://github.com/leetvr/hotham?

wgpu-openxr-example: a barebones example of how to integrate OpenXR with wgpu (Vulkan-only)
That being said, as implemented, this only works for desktop; getting it working on a standalone should be possible, but I've not looked into it that much - for that, you may be interested in Hotham.

A rust based, XR first, and real-time collaboration game engine idea.
Shameless plug, but I've built a reasonably usable, open source, OpenXR based game engine in Rust called Hotham. I'm definitely interested in real-time collaboration and really nailing the asset pipeline problem. If this is something you're interested in collaborating on, please let me know!

What’s everyone working on this week (including AoC, 51/2021)?
This week I am adding that most annoying of game engine systems, GUI, to Hotham, a game engine for standalone VR devices I've been working on this year.

FAQ for people who are suddenly getting this game/sub recommended to them.
The original 2004 freeware release is still conveniently available on the Tribute site. But if you want something more modern with more quality of life features, you can try doukutsu-rs.

Cave Story+ Steam Question
however, i believe doukutsu-rs (a fan-made engine recreation) has cutscene skip, and can be used with the game files from CS+ steam... if you're playing hardmode for the steam achievement you'll miss out on it and any others, though

Longtime fan looking to enhance the game with QoL mods, where should I start?
i wouldn’t recommend NX - doukutsu-rs is a lot better, more accurate and actively supported, plus it supports data files from nicalis ports (ie. allowing you to play with CS+ sprites and challenges)
-
Playability on mac or ios?
iOS, no afaik, mac, yes - doukutsu-rs has a native mac port and the original freeware version can be run through wine

What is the definitive version of the game on PC?
doukutsu-rs, which can also be used with CS+ data files (not included, for obvious reasons) and implements a number of features from CS+ (like cutscene skip, support for CS+ soundtracks, graphics, and challenges if you're using those data files, and local 2-player co-op). The mechanics are pretty accurate to the original game, with only a handful of minor inconsistencies which I'm sure will be fixed eventually™ as the engine is still actively in development.

Trying to apply english patch to cave story on macOS
NXEngine is quite inaccurate compared to the original freeware version. These days you should be using doukutsu-rs if you need an alternate engine to play the game.
