Whats the most efficient way to work with sprites and equipment swapping, if I don't want to use rigging with simple transform deforming?
This is a nifty app that actually generates inbetween frames for you. I haven't used it beyond trying it out a few times long ago, but it actually worked really well at the time.

Introducing Bitmapflow - a tool to generate inbetweens for animated sprites (made with godot-rust)
You can download it here and you can get the source code here. Windows only for now, sorry my Linux and Mac friends! (Although theoretically you should be able to get it to work if you compile it from source)

Sprite Animation in Bevy
You can use benimator . It's engine independent, but their examples folder shows you have to set it up for bevy.

Combining sprite animations (benimator + TextureAtlasSprite) with palette colorization?
In Bevy, the most ergonomic way to do sprite animations is using a TextureAtlasSprite and to modify the texture index based on the time, which is what benimator does for me.

How can I animate sprites on player movement and change sprites for each direction?
There are also external plugins that take care of this, for example: https://github.com/jcornaz/benimator
