  • How would I play D&D alone?

There are also a ton of hacks for it too. I've also got some comments here and here too where I gave some advice on how to use Ironsworn in a couple ways. (And yes, these are two different campaign runs of the same module)

Otherwise, why don't you try to find a different game in the hobby that supports your character idea and style of play? There are TONS of great systems out there. For example the Powered by the Apocalypse 'mechanic' is used by a lot of narrative-driven or Fiction First games, such as Ironsworn. It's marketed and designed as a self-contained solo system, but it can be easily played with a group. It's also super hackable, as the SRD is in Creative Commons, there are a LOT of hacks for it already, like Delves and Denizens that makes it more DnD-like, or Arcanum, which adds high magic. It's also super easy to learn, as the actual rules in the FREE core is less than 25 pages!
  • Do solo playstyles like Solitaire Campaign Books and Interactive Web Adventures exist for this game? How well does ths game adapts to soltaire esp being both DM and 1 Player simultanously? Does a website similar to DND Beyond for character keeping, dice rolling, and stat calculation exist for this?

If you're looking for something a bit different, Ironsworn is a popularly recommended system due to A) the Core is completely free, B) it's a complete, self-contained system with over 250 pages, and the actual rules being less than 50 pages, less than 25 if you ignore the character creation chapter, C) was designed for solo, but can easily support Co-Op (without a GM) and Guided (traditional, with a GM) play. It also has its own subreddit r/Ironsworn There is a paid expansion, Delve, which adds dungeon exploration to the mechanics. There's also a sister system, Ironsworn: Starforged, or just Starforged, is a futuristic sci-fi version. On top of those, the community is so collaborative and wholesome, that the Ironsworn SRD is in Creative Commons, and there are a TON of FREE HACKS for modifying the core system, such as adding high magic and more options to expand the core Oracles and Assets. Assets are what you use to customize your character; as there are no traditional classes, how you mix and match the assets determines your character's build. It is worth noting that Ironsworn is known as, and even calls itself, a Fiction-First game, not a Mechanics-first game, like D&D, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, Fate, etc.
  • Feeling a bit left out from my party :(
    1 project | /r/Pathfinder_RPG | 6 Mar 2023
It's marketed as a gritty, low-fantasy setting, but you can easily hack or with one of the MANY FREE HACKS for it, such as Ironsmith for more options, Arcanum is popular for high magic, Ironcrunch (if the rules are too light for you), Delves and Denizens/Vaults and Vows/a couple other 'D&D'-like hacks that make it more high-fantasy. So you can easily 'throw away' the core setting and use Golarion for example, if you wanted. I'm currently using Ironsworn with a sprinkling of PF1E mechanics to run myself through the Rise of the Runelords.
  • Games that get the balance right between customization and simplicity
    1 project | /r/rpg | 27 Feb 2023
As a recommendation I'll throw into the proverbial ring, to check out and see if it's for you, is Ironsworn. It's pretty rules light, and there are no classes, only how you build your character by mixing and matching "Assets" which are kinda like modular feats. There's also a TON of hacks, like a few D&D supplements.

You really don't need to print out anything if you have access to your phone or computer. • Exploration system in RPGs
    1 project | /r/rpg | 11 May 2023
You're just looking for random encounter tables or a hex crawl though you may want to consider switching to being a player or using a GM-less RPG since you seem to be avoiding the sort of thing a DM should be enjoying: creating the world and presenting it to players.
  • Hacking the Hexploration
    1 project | /r/Pathfinder2e | 30 Jan 2023
I am also creating an hexploration campaign, but I treat it more like a Mega-dungeon where each room is an hex and has 6 doors. This is more akin letting the players write the story themself creating multiple sidequests rather than following a major plot. I also prefer to use the 6 mile hex rather than the 12 one, so I can divide the day in more sections (and create more granular activities). I also divide each hex in 6 triangles for also more granular spatial features. I found many useful insight here: https://github.com/HextoryWorld/Awesome-Hexcrawl I think that having a table to generate the random encounters would be really interesting (something like in REVIEW: Old School Encounters Reference in the github link). Stuff like "why they are travelling", "what are their alignment/bonds/ideals/flaws", "at which distance the encounter takes places", "what are they doing when we encounter them". Just to make not every encounter a combat encounter. For some reason, I don't really like random encounters, as written they feels a time waste and I always want something more meaninful, like every random encounter provides something to the (side)plot. In practice, I prefer area (80%)+terrain(20%) based encounters, where the area is an area of influence of some point of interest, like goblins when near a settlement of goblins. And I try in some way to improvise something related relevant landmarks if I roll a terrain encounter.
