The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

(effectively) infinite custom heightmaps
Step 1: Get Worldengine and install it. There's instructions on how to do this on the github page. I use Linux but there's binaries and steps for Windows there as well.

Relief-Shaded Procedural DEMs
The results look fantastic! I wonder, how difficult would it be to replace/supplement the base Perlin-Noise heightmap with a .png heightmap or DEM? I've been working with https://github.com/Mindwerks/worldengine for years but upscaling and eroding the heightmaps has always been a struggle.
- Looking for a tool I vaguely remember

How do I install this?
I wanted to install this tool right here: https://github.com/Mindwerks/worldengine

Is WorldEngine still working in 2021?
I recently came across this neat-looking tool for world generation. https://github.com/Mindwerks/worldengine/ This looked perfect, so despite my lack of knowledge of programming I jumped in... but the guides seems to be outdated? For example, the guide for installing on Windows assumes that we are still using Python 2.7 & Windows 7. Is it outdated? Or is there other method that I am not aware of?

A procedural planet I've been working on. Shows generation of elevation and vegetation. Check out my youtube for more.
From the same github, you might be interested in https://github.com/Mindwerks/worldengine which uses platec but simulates more than just tectonics.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing TectMap and worldengine you can also consider the following projects:
tectonics.js - 3d plate tectonics in your web browser
widelands - Widelands is a free, open source real-time strategy game with singleplayer campaigns and a multiplayer mode. The game was inspired by Settlers II™ (© Bluebyte) but has significantly more variety and depth to it.
plate-tectonics - A fork of platec http://sourceforge.net/projects/platec/
