I'm sure there are off the shelf solutions that will integrate (hue bulbs, etc) but if you want a DIY project, and maybe one the kids could help with, you might get some ideas from the Weather Cloud I set up here.

For example: - Fish tank controllers with reef-pi - hydroponic watering system for herb garden - multiroom speakers with phatbeat hats, mpd and snapcast - some camera's with motioneye and temp and other sensors - a Flux Capacitor , cuz why not lol

If you can program and setup your own Arduino, then why would you also not want Wifi? If you are capable with Arduino and scripting then yes you can make any panel you want. Even these silly switches like these can be controlled using any script and panel …. Switchbot

The closest solution I've found so far is something called Switch Bot (https://www.switch-bot.com/), but its website says that the traditional US toggle switch is the one kind that the Switch Bot does not control. Is there something like the Switch Bot that works for US light switches?

UPDATE: so after 1 day of monitoring, I found out there’s a problem with the switchbot plugin (https://github.com/OpenWonderLabs/homebridge-switchbot-ble) other than incompatible with the switchmate plugin (https://github.com/fisherwise/homebridge-switchmate-switch) so I went ahead and return the switchbot meter. So, if you intend to use the the plugin for automation let say turn on/off your heater/fan and humidifier/dehumidifier, this won’t work. Although they claimed that there’s an option for scan interval (in this case is 60000 ms which is 1 minute), the plugin did not update every 1 minute. It’s only update when I asked Siri or open the home app on my phone. If you intend to just having it to monitor some places such as pantry or storehouse or garage then this will work just fine. I just want to update this information for everyone to have a better idea of the plugin and the meter.
