Working on single player but laying foundation for multiplayer?
Because I used C# to make my project, I could end up using C# networking libraries to make building my game a lot easier. I recommend Toemsel's Network Library: https://github.com/Toemsel/Network but you could use system.net instead.

Nuget package for Networkstream communication?
I always use this one: https://github.com/Toemsel/Network

What ground work should you do to create a small multiplayer game?
https://mirror-networking.com/ (Unity specific, looks nice but don't use unity myself).

A Unity environment created in URP for my portfolio
What I'm using now is Mirror backed with Epic Online Services. It's really great, if you want info on how to set stuff up I'll happily show you around. No subscriptions, no fees, though it's peer-to-peer (EOS doesn't host servers they just provide transport).

hey which is the best multiplayer solution for android (unity) for local multiplayer. [9:43 PM] Im new in networking so keep that in mind and any help is much appreciated
for someone coming back https://github.com/vis2k/Mirror/commit/7670271bf1f70840b73562c5933e9dec35484a01 this patch worked for me on mirror.
- Is it possible to make a P2P online multiplayer game hosted by a player using Photon?

C++ vs Unity/Unreal
I'm using Unity and I'm quite happy. Unreal is also a very powerful engine but I don't have enough experience with it to give a recommendation. You should be aware that Unity's native support for multiplayer is not great (understatement) but there are many free or commercial libraries that should fill the gap. One example of good open source multiplayer library is Mirror. I haven't used it myself yet but I'm planning to use it. Photon is also a good library but it's commercial.

Hosting with Mirror, But What About Port Forwarding?
Mirror (https://github.com/vis2k/Mirror) is a really good networking solution. However when hosting, you have to port forward to play with your friend. I of course don't want players to port forward just to play this. I want to make that get handled by my game. Ngrok (https://ngrok.com/) is a pretty good way to do, but there is an insane lag when I try it. Are there any other alternatives for this?

Unity with mirror
Hi, I guess you are talking about the network solution (https://github.com/vis2k/Mirror)

Multiplayer unity game
I recommend Mirror. Free and very easy to use
What are some alternatives?
