First time downloading mods
NPC mods will depend a LOT on your personal taste, but some of my favorites are: Angelo, Isra (& Isra for BG2), Adrian, Kelsey, Xan, Ninde. This is a very subjective list, but I feel these are all well-made mods that fit reasonably well with the game. Note that if you install more than 1 NPC mod, you'll want to install this crossmod pack so that the mod characters will actually talk with one another.
What are some alternatives?
BG1_Romantic_Encounters - A mod for BG1, adding several romantic adventures and also heart-warming quests all over the game.
Alternatives - Alternatives offers two new possibilities to consider when making the decision about whether to side with the Shadow Thieves or with Valen's Mistress. In addition to the traditional two, the player may now opt to side with a group even the paladins in the party could have no objection to... or he may opt to skip the whole decision entirely and set sail for Maztica. Tweaks-Anthology - The Tweaks Anthology is a WeiDU compilation of nearly 200 components of cosmetic changes, house rules, and other tweaks. Some of these were fan requests, others are needed changes, and others simply make dealing with the more irritating aspects of the game engine easier. Each component can be installed separately so the player can pick and choose only which ones they wish to install.
