You can explore AutoHotKey if you are on Windows. I have automated tons of mundane tasks filling timesheets, generating reports, deployment scripts, text expanders and hotkey mapping, etc. using Autohotkey script.

Almost any language could be used for something like this. Python [0] might be a good choice. But then there are tools designed for automating things on your computer like AutoHotkey for Windows. There are others out there, too.

There's also this simple script made using autohotkey, you can customize it the way you want.

If its performance was unbearable, you can always put it aside. You can also try Atom. It is outdated, but it could be answer to your need.

I'm surprised that nobody here mentioned Atom [1]. IIUC, Atom was designed to be hackable like Emacs.

A successor to Atom is Pulsar [2].

Hey everyone, I'm developing an open source text editor called Valence. I'm just getting started with its development and the next and main thing I need to implement is the editor itself. Now I know there are many different code editors like CodeMirror, Ace.js and Monaco but I want to start from scratch and build something like Atom had done. For Mac users - mv ~/.atom ~/atom_bak rm -fr /Applications/Atom.app download https://github.com/atom/atom/releases/tag/v1.60.0 Drag download to Applications folder - to install

And it doesn't match because https://github.com/atom/atom/releases/download/v1.63.1/atom-amd64.deb returns a 404 not found error, so of course it doesn't match.
