The OpenEXR project provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, the professional-grade image storage format of the motion picture industry.Project mention: HELP! Rendered over 100frames over night and ended up with unmerged AOVs. Is there anyway I can merge all of these manually into a sequence? "Merge AOVs" (and all other settings that normally work were turned on). I've managed to fix settings, my biggest concern is salvaging these frames. | reddit.com/r/Maya | 2022-04-28
Since its already rendered, you can check the beauty pass to see if it is already in a merged format. Change the extension to .exr and open it with EXR-IO https://www.exr-io.com/ in photoshop to see if your AOVs exist as layered data already. Depends on your settings of course if its in that format. Otherwise you will need to script the merge using some openexr tools available at https://www.openexr.com.
High dynamic range (HDR) image viewer and comparison toolProject mention: The joy of building a ray tracer, for fun, in Rust | news.ycombinator.com | 2022-01-03
In the decade I spent working on RenderMan at Pixar, I learned just how immensely useful it was to have an image viewer running in a separate process talking to the renderer over a socket or pipe. (The Image Tool, or "It" is RenderMan's viewer.) Having it stay up even if you kill the render or it crashes for some reason and being able to flip back and forth to easily compare test renders across recompiles is game changing.
If I were to start writing a new renderer, the first thing I'd do is to hook it up to an external image viewer over some protocol. These days, I find myself liking TEV (https://github.com/Tom94/tev) a lot as a simple open-source image viewer that supports this. See the links in the README for Python and Rust implementations of its protocol.

Fast and easy baked GI Lightmaps for Blender and CyclesProject mention: So Blender have a very sick lightmap renderer add-on using cycles which is obviously production proven, is there a custom shader that allow the usage of externally generated lightmaps ? | reddit.com/r/godot | 2021-10-26
FastFlix is a free GUI for HEVC and AV1 encoding, GIF/WebP creation, and more!Project mention: Will MP4/MP3/M4V/MPV/etc. Ever Become Obsolete In Our Lifetime? | reddit.com/r/jellyfin | 2022-05-05
Not using GPU? have you used Fast Flix? I think it takes me an hour last time to do a 30 minute video then again I haven't played around with it as much as I'd like too.
Open source ambient lighting implementation for television sets based on the video and audio streams analysis for Windows, macOS and Linux (x86 and Raspberry Pi). Includes real-time HDR tone mapping and multi-threading for better performance.

Application-based actions to change Windows settings ( display, audio) or run any program or actionProject mention: Automatically switch between HDR and SDR for games/desktop using AutoActions | reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace | 2022-06-14
I recently saw a comment recommending this open source software to switch to HDR when enterring (HDR supported) games and back to SDR for the desktop. I'm using this on my Alienware AW3423DW so that I can enjoy HDR1000 in-game without the crappy desktop HDR Automatic Brightness Limiting that affects the desktop. It's easy to set up and has worked flawlessly for me so far!

A proposal and draft spec for a Color object for the Web Platform, loosely influenced by our Color.js work. Heavily WIP, if you landed here randomly, please move along.Project mention: The EyeDropper API: Pick colors from anywhere on your screen | dev.to | 2021-11-11
Currently, all colors are returned in the sRGB color model. This means the API won't accurately return colors outside the sRGB spectrum, for example those on Apple's P3 screens. How to deal with this is an open issue. Work is also happening on a new Color API for the web. The EyeDropper API could use this Color API when it lands in future versions of browsers.

From what I've seen in the past, ffmpeg doesn't retain the HDR status. I use a program called Tricycle to convert mine whilst retaining the HDR settings.

Collection of scripts I use to postprocess photosProject mention: I want to digitally archive 120 years of family photos. Any tips? | reddit.com/r/DataHoarder | 2021-08-02
FWIW, this is the Python script I've written to automate the HDR-from-raw processing from these files. It definitely needs its logic tweaked -- the most obvious current problem is that it produces positives that are too light, or negatives that are too dark, so it's wasting a bunch of the dynamic range in the output file and requires more manual postprocessing than should strictly speaking be necessary -- but it basically does a good job of making the first steps less of a pain.
