SteamOS 3 for PC?
Check out HoloISO. Just as good
-
Why is it taking so long Valve, hurry up and put 3.5 on preview pretty please, I am dying waiting grrrrr
There's an open issue about it: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/SteamOS/issues/742—since Dec 2021. There is https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso though, but I suppose they just use the same binary packages as the real stuff..

which linux OS is best for gaming?
The Project you mean is called HoloISO - which according to their Github - This project attempts to bring the Steam Deck's SteamOS Holo redistribution into a generic, installable format, and provide a close-to-official SteamOS experience. (There is also ChimeraOS that features some more things)
-
Need help deciding a distro
install ChimeraOS or HoloISO for an experience that's more akin to Valve's SteamOS.

There's always Holo ISO as long as you don't have an Nvidia GPU.

Best option for installing SteamOS as a ProxMox VM?
As for Proxmox, I found this issue fromlast november: https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso/issues/622. Seems like it does work but with audio issues for this user.

musl-void + flatpak appreciation post
Hey, then, in that case, if you want to play and (have|can spare some cash on) a hard drive just for it, give Holoiso a try. It will save quite a lot of time if we are talking about gaming :) It's got also flatpak apps and it was designed as a console OS, so in my opinion it is the most stable arch-based linux system I've ever used :D

Asus Ally Emulates PS3, Nintendo Switch, Xbox 360 with Ease
Officially, yes. But there's an unofficial build that runs on tons of devices - I tried it out on my GPD Win Max 2 and it ran great (until an update borked it): https://github.com/HoloISO/holoiso
That was a while ago, so I assume things have only improved.
That's the old Debian-based Steam OS 2. The Steam Deck uses Steam OS 3.0 (Arch-based) which is not yet officially released.
In the meantime, there's HoloISO [0], but it's unofficial.
