If you'd rather use a visual editor than coding, have a look at polygonjs (disclaimer, I'm developing it). It's based on threejs, and inspired by houdini/nuke. You can do a lot with it as is, but if you want to extend it, you can create plugins or integrate it with vue/react. There are several examples on github.
