  • cassowary

Run Windows Applications on Linux as if they are native, Use linux applications to launch files files located in windows vm without needing to install applications on vm. With easy to use configuration GUI

  • For Office via VM, I've generally run with fmstrat's WinApps for better integration but apparently Cassowary is the new one that is more actively developed (including an auto-suspend feature). Cassowary said they coulld integrated with both virt-manager and VMWare, though the latter don't have the auto-suspend integration. They both include an instruction on creating a VM for their setup.

  • winapps

Run Windows apps such as Microsoft Office/Adobe in Linux (Ubuntu/Fedora) and GNOME/KDE as if they were a part of the native OS, including Nautilus integration.

  • quickemu

Quickly create and run optimised Windows, macOS and Linux desktop virtual machines.

  • Generally, outside of GPU usage (barring GPU-Passthrough), QEMU/kvm works better for performance. If you want to try QEMU/kvm with less hassle, Gnome Boxes and quickemu would be easier to setup but I prefer just using virt-manager directly.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
