  • macOS-Simple-KVM

Tools to set up a quick macOS VM in QEMU, accelerated by KVM.

    Project mention: My WFH/Hackintosh/Gaming compact setup! | reddit.com/r/battlestations | 2022-01-27

https://github.com/foxlet/macOS-Simple-KVM is the easiest option regardless of your hardware. MacOS is tricky to install on bare metal. Compatibility is spotty with certain motherboards, AMD processors, and Nvidia (no drivers at all unless you use a really old version of the OS). The solution is to add kernel extensions to the bootloader, but that it also a tricky and time consuming process. Installing a minimal Linux and then running macOS in a VM with an AMD graphics card passed through to it is by far the easiest way to get a system running, though you will get a tiny performance loss in terms of wasting some seconds booting Linux before it in turn boots macOS, as well as the ~200MB or so of RAM and HDD that the background Linux will consume.

  • quickemu

Project mention: My high school students' first exposure to Garuda. They were blown away with how cool everything is. | reddit.com/r/linux | 2022-01-22

https://github.com/doomedraven/Tools/tree/master/Virtualization - this guy has a super script that compiles the latest version of qemu , while also patching clues that are usually searched when probing if vm or not . It works best if you have a brand new ubuntu desktop install

  • vfio

A script for easy pci and usb passthrough along with disks, iso's and other useful flags for quick tinkering with less of a headache. I use it for VM gaming and other PCI/LiveCD/PXE/VM/RawImage testing given the script's accessibility.

Project mention: Use GPU on host | reddit.com/r/VFIO | 2022-01-14

I also use the above trick on my AX200 PCI wireless chip on my motherboard literally multiple times a day in my vfio script and it has no issue with it. It disappears from my task bar as a wireless connection option and reappears once I bind the iwlwifi driver back to it after my VM shuts down. Granted, it's not as huge and complex a device like a modern GPU.. but it's the same pci driver rebinding-to-vfio-and-back principle as any other PCI device.
