Do you mean getmonero.org? If so, I'm assuming you're talking about the wallet. That's not a proper miner, it's a wallet with (fairly poor) solo-mining functionality. Get xmrig, there's a binary download if you don't want to build from source, which is considered best practice, but ultimately not hugely important. With xmrig you're free to solo mine on your own node, a remote one or a pool. It's fairly beginner friendly, although a step up from the download-and-run offered by the wallet - definitely worth it, though, hashrate is significantly better, as is functionality and configurability.
