I followed these instructions to setup OptiFine: https://github.com/MultiMC/Launcher/wiki/MultiMC-and-OptiFine
I’d recommend not using Optfine and instead using fabric with performance mods from this link. Community consensus is that Optifine is outdated in its methods and various performance mods such as Sodium and Lithium achieve the same goal with better performance.
