  • I personally preordered the Deck the second I heard that someone was making a handheld x86 GNU/Linux[2] computer. The gaming capabilities were absolutely secondary. And I have not been disappointed. Via an absolutely obscene number of peripherals[3] and a userspace-only development stack built mainly on mambaforge, I've managed to code, build and test packages in Python, Java and C; edit and render videos (including my own boot ani via Avidemux and Kdenlive; and do 3D modeling, texturing and printing using Blockbench/Blender, GIMP and Cura, respectively. I've actually gone out of my way to try to find things the Deck can't do (or could only do by modifying the read-only file system) and been stumped every time.[4]
