    You can use KVirc, HexChat or like me Xchat-SE. The latter two are both freeware forks of Xchat, which used to be my long-term favorite client, albeit shareware. Nowadays, HexChat is probably the most popular choice but I prefer Xchat-SE because it almost identical to the original application yet it's regularly updated and boasts pretty much the same rich set of features.
