[Offtopic] Anattā (non-self) from Buddhism is a predecessor of the epistemic part of the Buddha-Darwinism
Though getting non-self in the Buddha-Darwinism from quasi-immortality leads to drastically different morals than Buddhism ones (which doesn't use quasi-immortality).

Modern sciense ontology is a Last Thursdayism implicitly
Especially multiverse paired with anthropic principle suffers from this. It happens because of the lack of solid novelty emergence mechanics. Attempts to fix it give us ad hock patches to not get Boltzmann brain variant as the most probable sentient life.

Applying Universal Darwinism to evaluation of Terminal values
The Applying Universal Darwinism to evaluation of Terminal values article. Another title is Buddha-Darwinism on objective meaning of life separated from subjective meaning of life (Cosmogonic myth from Darwinian natural selection, Quasi-immortality, Free will, Buddhism-like illusion of “Self”).

Evaluating terminal values
P.S. Basically, that post was a recap of a part of the more poetic and “old school” article that I've written: Applying Universal Darwinism to evaluation of Terminal values. The article doesn't add anything important to the question of this post but mostly stretches Universal Darwinism in other direstions instead.

On promoting a math research task via philosophy (the task is “Open-ended natural selection of interacting code-data-dual algorithms as a property analogous to Turing completeness”)
And here is a promotional article: Darwin-Buddhism on objective meaning of life separated from subjective meaning of life (Cosmogonic myth of Darwinian natural selection, Quasi-immortality, Free will, Buddhism-like illusion of “Self”).

ALIEN(Artificial Life Environment) is an artificial life simulator based on a specialized physics and rendering engine in CUDA. It is designed to simulate digital organisms embedded in artificial ecosystems and to mimic conditions for (pre-)biotic evolution. It's also free, and open sourced.
Going to look into that, thanks. I've tried Thrive which I guess is more game orientated.

What game is the prime example of "Great Idea but terrible execution" ?
Thrive is another spore inspired game... but expect a long development time. The steam version supports development but I think there is a free version on their website.

anti symmetry bug in multicellular
The video you posted shows this issue: https://github.com/Revolutionary-Games/Thrive/issues/3197 In fact I refer to that exact video in the issue when describing what seems likely to be the problem.
-
Does anyone know why this happens?
The later stages are included as prototypes. This is a known issue in the game incorrectly calculating the compounds needed to reproduce and as such the bars don't match with what actually happens: https://github.com/Revolutionary-Games/Thrive/issues/3908
