Home Assistant blocked from integrating with Garage Door opener API
> https://github.com/make-all/tuya-local
Just a small warning: make sure to check whether your device needs to be added to the Tuya cloud to get a local API key. I was only able to get "my" lamp working locally after registering it via the app and creating a developer account.
Another option can be flashing it with Tasmota: https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Tuya-Convert/

Hi, I tested a cheap Moes Smart Zigbee Thermostat
IF you use Home Assistant, this integration (local-tuya) lists the BHT-002 as a supported device for local control. I have NOT tested it though, and in my opinion it is not worth it.

Tuya Smart device detected in my new home
Looking at the Home Assistant integration for local network control of Tuya Smart devices, it's a pretty long list. Could be literally any kind of device: https://github.com/make-all/tuya-local

ESPHome: MQTT over Websockets?
Thanks for digging into this! Based on your response and the response from u/antirobot, it appears neither the ESPHome server nor the embedded client support wsMQTT (makes sense because I was looking in vain for an option to specify the connection type). It appears HA only recently added support for wsMQTT, so I'm not too surprised.

Three cool projects to contribute to during Hacktoberfest
If coding isn't your thing, you can contribute to the Home Assistant Docs and help make tutorials and documentation more accessible. Make sure you read the contribution guidelines for understanding their contribution process. This team is super great to work with; I've already made a few contributions to their docs.

What are some alternatives?
better_thermostat - This custom component for Home Assistant will add crucial features to your climate-controlling TRV (Thermostatic Radiator Valves) to save you the work of creating automations to make it smart. It combines a room-temperature sensor, window/door sensors, weather forecasts, or an ambient temperature probe to decide when it should call for heat and automatically calibrate your TRVs to fix the imprecise measurements taken in the radiator's vicinity.
