taskwarrior VS todo.txt-cli

A task manager tool that supports syncing with Taskwarrior.

Not much to say, it's a {https://github.com/GothenburgBitFactory/taskwarrior}(command line utility for task management) with a lot of features. I like it because I tend to spend more time on desktop than mobile, although there are a {https://github.com/bgregos/foreground}(couple) of {https://f-droid.org/es/packages/kvj.taskw/}(apps) for Android users. It allows synchronization between devices by setting up your own {https://taskwarrior.org/docs/taskserver/setup/}(taskserver) or using {https://inthe.am/}(third party tools).

I set out on this course with taskchampion-lib about three years ago. It quickly became clear that some tooling would help.

Web-based tools and gui apps are just too high friction for my work flow, so I prefer simple command line tools. https://taskwarrior.org/ is my current favorite.

I’ll volunteer Taskwarrior (https://taskwarrior.org), since I don’t see it from anyone else just yet. It’s a CLI oriented task management system which (once you learn it) can be very quick and easy to use. It’s not perfect but they’ve done a better job that I would have for sure, and have really thought about reducing friction.

Cool, I set it in my Google Calendar and put it in my Taskwarrior that I started using.

Development on it isn't as active as it was once upon a time, but it's definitely still happening! A new (large) pull request was opened just yesterday: https://github.com/GothenburgBitFactory/taskwarrior/pull/3094

Since at least 2012 I've also been using a text file format from http://todotxt.org/ and more recently I wrote a program that takes a crontab-like list to pre-generate entries on a daily, by-day-name (every Sunday for example), and I also pull in a list of holidays from gov.uk, so they are also populated.

It's a web app implementing the todo.txt format (see http://todotxt.org/). It's an exercise to learn frontend currently, I doubt I could successfully monetize it. Would appreciate any feedback!

That format is really similar to todo.txt format, worth taking a look at http://todotxt.org/ (which in turn has application links).

For todo and schedule I use todo.txt (http://todotxt.org/) a plain file managed by scripts which build agenda and plumber to keep track of unique keys.

The ToDo.Txt format makes it easy to use across devices/software, but this is really limited to ToDos.

Good idea, something similar to todotxt.org. But no 1) iPhone app 2) you need to sigh up and keep your notes at developers servers 3) subscriptions?! come on!

There are a couple different routes you can go down. If your goal is to learn CLI stuff, it's hard to beat using shell-scripting for a simple app like a todo manager. Storing them in a plain-text file, a little sed/grep/awk and you're well on your way. For inspiration & hints, you might check out https://todotxt.org However, you can rapidly hit performance issues and limitations on available tooling if you stick to just POSIX tools.
