Am I the only one who doesn't put parentheses around the parameters in Ruby method definitions?
Rubocop has a default rule that says to put parentheses when there are parameters; even Standardrb has a default ([https://github.com/standardrb/standard/blob/8307fa8f449f896075ccad 74bf6a128ed2c26189/config/base.yml#L1098:title])

Cynically, reading heavily between the lines, this reads to me like DHH just found out lots of rubyists like standardrb. https://github.com/standardrb/standard -- and this is his quick reaction to it.

"Useless Ruby sugar": Endless (one-line) methods
This is a huge reason why I still use StandardJS andâshifting back to Rubyâwhy I rejected the countless requests for implementing line-length or any other metrics analysis rules for [StandardRB](https://github.com/standardrb/standard). There is always a legitimate edge case when it comes to length of lines and functions and the alternativeâchopping them off arbitrarilyâis rarely an improvement.

Linting and Auto-formatting Ruby Code With RuboCop
If you don't want to fiddle with configuration files and the wealth of options provided by RuboCop, consider taking a look at the Standard project. It's largely a pre-configured version of RuboCop that aims to enforce a consistent style in your Ruby project without allowing the customization of any of its rules. The lightning talk where it was first announced gives more details about its origin and motivations.

Babel is used by millions, so why are we running out of money? (2021)
I do appreciate your transparency, though I disagree with the sentiment that Iâm arguing from a position of bad faith.
Itâs a self-evident fact that the Babel team has not shown a moment of interest in lowering their role in the JavaScript ecosystem to anything short of kingmakers. Have a gander at their GitHub README and what do we see?[1]
- âBabel is a compiler for writing next generation JavaScript.â Indefinitely.
- Over a dozen sponsor logos. An embarrassment of riches.
- A literal audio recording of a song in praise of the project.
The Babel team has a well documented history of their priorities[2], emphasizing the need for a modular approach that has no exit strategy[3]. At best, we have a case of accidental entrenchment and long term dependence on the Babel brewing as early as 2017![4]
Compare this infinite circus to the humble but popular Normalize.css, which has the express purpose to stop existing.[5]
If the Babel team wants to raise some money, they can start by putting a plan together that would codify an exit strategy. Itâs certainly more noble than their current plan of barnacling on to every NPM packageâŚ

Reveddit does not work
The problem was I had used some new code, Javascript's replaceAll(), that is unsupported by older browsers. And, the setup I have to automatically fix such issues (called babel) is out of date. So, while this problem appears to be resolved there, I hadn't updated that in awhile.
