Polkadot Digest 17 May 2023
Polkadot Vault (formerly called Parity Signer) is open-source. You can view the code here: https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/

Suggestions are appreciated.
I wouldn't say it's a black box system. If you want, you can read the code here, compile it yourself and load it on to your phone - https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer

Any plans for Hardware Wallet Intergration?
Don't think there's any HW wallets supported atm. Personally I'm using Parity Signer on an old phone, air gapped. But that's also quite involved to get up and running. (https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/releases/tag/v5.0.1) But to get it to work with ACA you need to add the network and the metadata, see https://metadata.parity.io/, if you're technical you can checkout their github project and locally run an update site for Acala.

Polkadot v0.9.0 has been released; upgrade priority is HIGH
You can run the polkadot.js/apps UI natively as an electron client. That's available from the releases page: https://github.com/polkadot-js/apps/releases For added security+confidence, you could connect this to a locally-run node instead of parity (or whoever)'s publicly run RPC nodes. If you want a cold wallet (i.e., offline, used for signing transactions, etc) you can use parity-signer

WARNING: Risk of losing funds, please do not use this Parity Signer ยท Issue #724
It isn't misleading in any way shape or form. The developer of the tool agrees that right now it should not be used. See their response here: https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/issues/680
